A guide to the Valuation of Commercial Forest Plantations

An important guide has been published which will be a vital resource for forestry valuers and auctioneers.  The guide was written by Henry Phillips, Daragh Little, Tom McDonald and John Phelan, all leaders in forestry valuations in Ireland.  The guide deals with valuation methods, international requirements, underlying land value, revenues and costs, location and site factors, forecasting future volume, discount rate, risks and how to go about a forestry valuation.

Daragh Little said, “this is the first time leading forestry valuers have come together to produce such a guide.  It is timely as the market for forestry plantations is growing as forest premiums come to an end.  Forest owners and valuers need to know the appropriate methods of valuing forestry in order provide the most accurate valuation.  Forestry is a growing sector within Ireland and this guide will help drive forward the valuation of forestry plantations in a fair and transparent manner.”  Forest valuations are used in investment appraisals, plantation sales and purchase, financial reporting, tax, insurance and litigation purposes.”

The guide is available from COFORD on their website at www.coford.ie, you can order your hard copy from http://www.coford.ie/publications/books/

Daragh Little is also available to provide forest valuation advice. Please emaildaragh@nullfel.ie for more information.
