FEL Managing Director, Daragh Little Appointed IFFPA
Daragh Little, Managing Director of Forest Enterprises Ltd. (FEL) was last week appointed Chairman of the Irish Forestry and Forest Products Association (IFFPA). IFFPA is a business sector within IBEC and was established to represent the broad forest and forest based business sector. Sub-sectors within this include growing, harvesting, management, sawmills and wood processing sectors. IFFPA ensures that the government and other key decision makers recognise the value and importance of industry to the environment and the economy.
Daragh Little a graduate of UCD with over 20 years’ experience in the forestry sector will take up the position of chairman for the next two years succeeding current chairman Pat Delaney. Daragh Little is the MD of FEL, a forestry consultancy company that specialise in all aspects of forestry including establishment, harvesting, management and investment. FEL currently manages over €120million of forestry assets throughout Ireland and the UK.
The forestry industry in Ireland is a relatively young sector that comprises of many sub sectors. IFFPA aims to unite all sub-sectors of the wood supply chain to tackle areas of common concern and act as one united voice for the whole sector to aid further growth and to secure its long term contribution to the Irish economy. Marion Byron, President of IFFPA said, “We are delighted to appoint Daragh as Chairman for IFFPA. Since Daragh joined IFFPA he has been extremely active, hardworking and dedicated to growing the organisation. He has proved his ability to build relationships across the sector and with government. Daragh brings to the role a wealth of experience and a clear vision not only for the organisation but for the forestry sector in Ireland as whole.”
In 2010, the Irish forestry and forest products sector generated approximately €2.2 billion in annual output representing almost 1.4% of GDP. Over 10% of Ireland is under forest, supporting a vibrant and export oriented forest products sector. The sector currently employs almost 12,000 people in Ireland, with the majority of these rural based.
On his appointment Daragh Little said: “I am thrilled to be appointed Chairman of the IFFPA group. Over the next two years I will focus on building relationships within the sector, drive membership and bring together existing members with a vision of making IFFPA the voice of forestry in Ireland. Some of the key areas for concern in 2013 are afforestation, forest road planning and CAP reform. I look forward to meeting existing members of IFFPA and representatives from the various forestry sub sectors.”
