Increase of rate for roads to €40/m

In addition to changes to the afforestation programme, the Government also approved changes to the forestry road scheme.  The key changes to this programme include an increase in rate for roads to €40/m. A maximum of 100% of total costs of building forest roads will be funded subject to the maximum payment of up to €40/m excluding VAT to a maximum of 20m/ha. This is increase of €5/m and an increase from 80% to 100% from the current programme.

Other changes to the programme include:
•    Applications can be submitted towards upgrading or extending existing roads
•    Additional 30m (15m for each wing) allowance for bell-mouths where proposed road is 2m below entrance

In order to be eligible for a road grant, 20% of the forest must be thinned within three years of receiving the first instalment grant. Thinning’s must be carried out on time.
