PEFC™ is the internationally recognised, independent non-governmental organisation that was established to promote responsible sustainable forest management to protect woodlands and forests on a world-wide basis.

Trevor McHugh, Managing Director Commercial of Veon stated that “the Veon Certification scheme is the first step we have taken to roll out PEFC as our chosen certification standard in Ireland and will form the basis of our approach to certification as we pursue our international Corporate Social Responsibility projects in Ireland, Scotland and also in sub-Saharan Africa. This achievement comes on the back of Veon’s successful diversification into ecology and environmental services in 2020, a development that we view a very much in line with our achieving PEFC certification for our clients’ forests”.

Forest management regimes are changing along with public attitudes to forestry in general and Veon is at the forefront of managing that change. “Our client’s forests are managed sustainably in accordance with best environmental, social and economic practice. The successful award of certification to our clients demonstrates the sustainable nature of our client’s forest, something that is as important today as it has ever been” according to Daragh Little, Managing Director Forestry at Veon.

Veon is Ireland’s leading forest management company and has recently launched its Veon Ecology division to ensure that it remains at the forefront of providing leading edge land-use solutions to its growing client base in Ireland and overseas.

The successful award of the PEFC Certificate is yet another accolade for Veon which manages the largest private woodland estate in the country.
