Veon Arboriculture – views of Arbicide taking place

It is not all that surprising to see instances of complete ignorance of arboricultural knowledge and practice even on County Council-owned land and public amenity spaces.

The first image of this Beech Tree, Fagus sylvatica, is indicative of a large interior cavity, likely due to a poor pruning wound or other damage that hasn’t been able to occlude -possibly resulting in a weakness in the bole depending on the extent of the decay. The fact that it is located in a public park in Dublin with nearby playing pitches complete with significant numbers of pedestrians and kids playing should provide the local council with sufficient motivation to ensure that tree hazards in public places under their management are investigated and monitored.

Here’s a few more local authority unintentional “arbicides” taking place within the last 5 months. Images showing no due care or concern for trees in relation to construction. These works will result in the destabilisation of the tree in County Roscommon (drainage works surrounded by red barriers) due to root damage.

And death of the tree in County Sligo in approximately 5-10 years (possibly sooner) due to root compaction and damage. Both trees are in heavily populated areas and are surrounded by significant targets, which in the event of the failure of the trees will result in the liability resting squarely on the shoulders of the councils in question. All these examples would have benefited from a Veon arboricultural method statement.
