Baby Elegance, a prominent baby brand in Ireland, is continuing its sustainability tree planting initiative to help combat the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.
The trees are planted in its Little Buds Forests in Roscommon, Kilkenny, Kildare and Wicklow which is part funded through the Department of Agriculture and the Marine’s Afforestation Scheme for Native Woodland Establishment, and is being carried out in conjunction with Veon, Ireland’s leading forestry and ecology consultants.

Baby Elegance undertook to plant one tree for every cot or bed sold with thousands of native trees already planted under this initiative.
Gavan Costello, sales director at Baby Elegance, expressed immense enthusiasm for sustainability and the initiative to offset the company’s carbon footprint especially during National Tree Week. “The establishment of the Little Buds Forests, where every cot purchased by customers will symbolize the planting of a tree in the forest, will serve as a hopeful emblem for future generations”. He also reiterated the company’s commitment to foster a stronger bond with the earth and the environment and provide leadership by example for other manufacturing business to follow suit.

Planting native trees including oak, birch and hazel and creating new native woodland cover, provides a range of other ecosystem benefits such as mitigating flood risk, soil conservation, protecting wildlife and carbon sequestration. Enhancing the natural environment also has positive benefits for local communities.

A broadleaf oak forest on average sequesters 6.60 tonnes of CO2 per hectare per annum and a rotation may be 100 years long. The Little Buds Forests are forecast to sequester an estimated 1,478 tonnes of CO2 over their lifetime and will also enhances biodiverse habitats for native Irish mammal species such as red squirrels and stoats.

Becoming a VEON Leadership Climate Partner helps achieve corporate socially responsible objectives in the context of protecting and enhancing wider environmental responsibilities, especially with the dual crisis of biodiversity loss and climate change.
