Ganoderma australe identified by Veon Arboriculturalists on a mature beech (Fagus sylvatica) in our Tree Condition Assessment of roadside boundary trees in Co. Westmeath.
This fungus is a heart-rot strategist, meaning it prefers to decay the central wood of the stem; the fruiting bracket and dead wood in this tree would suggest that dysfunction is spreading to the outer, more-alive, regions of the stem.
