Ireland’s First National Conference on Wood Mobilisation Announced

Daragh Little of Veon will be a guest speaker at the First National Conference on Wood Mobilisation which has been announced to take place on Wednesday June 1 in Johnstown House Hotel, Enfield, Co Meath.

The conference will address ways of increasing the flow of timber in Ireland and examining strategies to help reduce barriers to wood mobilisation.

In today’s Farmer’s Journal 19th May 2016, Donal Magner reports that in nine years’ time, timber production from private forests will equal Coillte production. Within 20 years 60% of all timber harvested in Ireland – north and south – will be sourced in private forests, mainly owned by farmers. By then, total timber production will reach 7.9 million m3, more than 4.5 million m3 greater than produced in 2014, according to the All-Ireland Roundwood Production Forecast 2016-2035 issued by COFORD.

For further information on the Conference and to book a place, email the Society of Irish Foresters ([email protected]) or the Wood Marketing Federation ([email protected]) or check their websites (www.societyofirishforesters.ie and www.wood.ie).
