Veon is looking to recruit a Lead Ecologist to join our growing team throughout Ireland. As a company providing services to the forestry, ecology and environmental sectors, the successful candidate must demonstrate a knowledge of forest ecology while also committed to providing practical solutions for our clients. Our company offers a wide variety of services across both the forestry and ecology sectors all of which will provide you with a breadth of experience in this field.

The role will primarily involve undertaking ecological surveys and reporting on these surveys while working closely with our Senior Ecologist in relation to project planning and delivery of our broad range of ecology services. The successful candidate will have strong project management skills and be able to work within tight deadlines while making a positive contribution to our team. The role is directly responsible to the Senior Ecologist.

We can offer flexibility in relation to the location of the role and the successful candidate can be based at our Head Office in Dublin or at one of our Regional Offices in Longford or Kilkenny.

Key Responsibilities of Lead Ecologist Role:

  • Carry out ecological surveys on client properties and compile technically robust ecology reports. These will include, but not limited to, Pre-screening reports, Appropriate Assessment reports, Natura Impact Statements and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports.
  • Together with the Senior Ecologist, compile tender submissions within tight timeframes and proactively engage in new business acquisition.
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to our entire team on ecological issues as they arise.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation and guidance to ensure company compliance and interpret this for colleagues and the Management Team.
  • Manage a large workload efficiently including scheduling of work and communicating with team members and clients in a timely manner.
  • Manage time and project delivery in an organised and proactive manner to ensure smooth delivery of reports and projects.
  • Work as a team member and share knowledge, expertise and learning with colleagues.
  • Collate and store ecological data and reports pertaining to client sites and maintain these records to be easily accessible.

Requirements of Lead Ecologist Role

  • The successful candidate should have the following skills:
  • Relevant degree in Ecology or related discipline is essential.
  • Membership of relevant professional institute is desirable.
  • Experience in Ecological Clerk of Works, Appropriate Assessment reporting, Natura Impact Statements and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports is required.
  • Ability to manage projects to tight deadlines.
  • Previous experience in GIS including ArcGIS and QGIS is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders and negotiate practical solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Full driving licence is essential.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Ireland.
  • Capable of working competently both alone and as part of the team when required.
