Veon Announces 2026 SETU Forestry Scholarship Winner

Veon Forestry Scholarship Award Ceremony 2026

Veon is pleased to announce that Mr. Daniel Comiskey, a Forestry student at South Eastern Technological University, has been awarded The Veon Excellence in Forest Management Scholarship for 2026.

The scholarship forms part of Veon’s ongoing commitment to supporting education, professional development and excellence in Irish forestry. As a company working across forestry, ecology and arboriculture services, Veon recognises the importance of encouraging talented students who are preparing to enter the forestry profession at a time when the sector faces both significant challenges and important opportunities.

Forestry in Ireland requires a broad range of skills. Today’s forestry professionals must understand silviculture, forest planning, environmental compliance, biodiversity, climate resilience, land management, stakeholder engagement and the practical realities of working in a highly regulated sector. The Veon Excellence in Forest Management Scholarship is designed to support students who are developing this combination of academic knowledge, technical ability and professional judgement.

The award covering final year college fees. In addition, the scholarship provides for a paid professional work placement with Veon during the summer period, giving the successful student the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a professional forestry environment.

The scholarship also includes support for a relevant elective research project, helping to connect academic study with practical forestry issues. On successful completion of the BSc (Hons) in Land Management in Forestry, the scholarship may also lead to a minimum one-year graduate position with Veon, subject to the terms and conditions of the award.

For students, this combination of financial support, work placement, research support and potential graduate employment provides a valuable bridge between university study and professional practice. For Veon, the scholarship is an opportunity to support emerging talent and to contribute positively to the future of the forestry sector.

Applicants for the scholarship are third year Forestry students at SETU Waterford. The application process includes submission of an online application and completed Forest Management Plan, followed by shortlisting and interview. The successful applicant is then formally recognised through SETU’s Industry Sponsored Awards.

Veon would like to congratulate Daniel Comiskey on receiving the 2026 scholarship. This is a significant achievement and reflects his progress as a Forestry student at SETU.
