The yew tree is one of Ireland’s few native evergreen trees, and it is one of the oldest trees growing in Northern Europe.
This ancient yew and ancient ivy was seen in our recent Tree Condition Assessment Survey of an estate in Co. Laois. The ivy stem has a diameter of over 200mm.
One of the yew limbs broke out at base in the past but continues to grow horizontally.
