Veon Ecology and Ballyfin Demesne undertake extensive biodiversity enhancement to achieve their sustainability objectives

Ballyfin Demesne has embarked on a major sustainability and biodiversity enhancement journey and have appointed Ecology and Arboriculture experts Veon to help them achieve their goals. The Ballyfin estate’s sustainability team works with Veon foresters and ecologists to incorporate woodland establishment and rewilding projects into the estate’s development plans to help achieve their sustainability goals and carbon neutrality.

The Sustainability and biodiversity enhancement programme commenced with a tree survey of the mature specimen trees followed by a base line ecology survey of the entire property. This led to the planting of 15 acres of new native woodland in the Spring of 2025 with a mixture of Oak, Birch, Scots pine. Hazel, Alder, Birch, Rowan & Spindle and protected by a 2m high deer fence. A 3 acre plot of mature conifers was clearfelled during the Summer months and will be replanted with native woodland in the Spring of 2026. These new woodlands will help create a diverse habitat and provide a haven for wildlife to flourish throughout the demesne while complementing the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
