VEON Harvesting Commercial Timber in Co. Waterford

Veon Forestry commenced this harvesting operation in Co. Waterford last week. Timber extracted from this commercial forest will be used for pallets and packaging, timber fencing, roofing, timber frames, decking and wood pellets.

Our own domestic commercially grown timber is used to help create much needed housing for our growing population and large number of new house buyers.

Ireland’s built environment currently represents 37 per cent of overall annual greenhouse gas emissions with 14 per cent of this being embodied carbon, the carbon required to construct the built environment. The decarbonisation of our built environment needs to address the wider impact of embodied emissions and Ireland urgently needs to embrace low-carbon construction and make greater use of home-grown timber.

The challenge of increasing the number of homes while reducing emissions can be partially mitigated with an increased use of timber in construction.
