Minister Andrew Doyle TD officially opens Veon’s new Regional Office in ATHENRY

Minister Andrew Doyle TD officially opened Veon’s new Regional Office in Athenry Mart on Wednesday 21st February 2018. The Minister highlighted the major economic benefits to the local Galway economy of having a growing supply of commercial forestry on their doorstep.

(L-R: Ken Sweeney Veon, Paul Brosnan Marketing Director Veon, Daragh Little MD Forestry Veon, Ronan Finnegan Regional Manager Veon, Minister of State Andrew Doyle TD, Trevor McHugh MD Commercial Veon, Hugh Cawley Director of Operations Veon and Joe Codd Director of Sales Veon)

Commenting on the launch, Ronan Finnegan, Regional Manager Veon Mid West, said “that the new regional office will become a focal point for many of our farm forester clients from the Mid West and I look forward to discussing any of their forest planting and harvesting requirements or needs”.

Veon is committed to providing the highest levels of professionalism to clients most of whom are farmers. With over 25 year’s forest management experience, Veon currently manages
over 40,000 acres of high quality commercial forests in Ireland and has established over 15,000 acres of forestry throughout the country.

Minister Doyle welcomed the new regional office as a vote of confidence in the commercial forestry sector in the Mid West and the increasingly important role that forestry plays in providing income diversification opportunities for farmers especially in light of continuing uncertainty over the effects of Brexit on farm incomes.

“Commercial forestry plays a highly significant role in sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and is our primary weapon in countering the devastating effects of climate change, the results of which we are experiencing with greater frequency” stated Minister Doyle. “Furthermore, forestry has been proven to lessen the impact of water run-off from cloudbursts by helping the soil absorb greater amounts of water and thus reducing the flow and consequent damage to people’s property and local communities” he added.
